
In Memory of Larry E. Hakari
Larry Elmer Hakari, age 74 of Barron, passed away peacefully at Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire on February 19, 2026.
He was born July 14, 1951 in Rice Lake to Reino and Genevieve Hakari. After graduating from Rice Lake High in 1969, he later joined the army in 1971. After completing his army service, he decided to become an RN, and worked in that capacity for many years until bad health caused him to retire.
Following his retirement and decline in health, Larry spent his days collecting diecast cars, listening to his favorite music and talking with friends and family online. When able, he loved to travel with his wife, Shirley, especially to visit their special friends, Gary and Pat Faw from North Carolina.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley; their children, Andrea (Shane) Toven, Steven (Carmen) Hakari and Amie Hakari; granddaughters, Abby (Ryan), Lilly and Natalie; brothers, Craig Hakari and Phil (Karen) Hakari; sisters, Lana Kawakami, Lani Walsh, Heidi (Bernie) Paulson, Marilee Hakari and Paula (Don) Hinckle; mother-in-law, Ethel Rasmussen; brothers-in-law, David (Sheryl) Rasmussen and Bruce (Kelli) Rasmussen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kent; sisters, Peggy and Julie; brothers-in-law, Vernon and Jim; and father-in-law, Alf Rasmussen.
A gathering of Larry’s family and friends to celebrate and share stories of his life will be held on Saturday, March 14th from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Barron.
