
In Memory of Lawrence "Larry" C. Poppe
Lawrence Clifford Poppe, age 66, of Hayward, WI passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at his home.
Larry was born May 2, 1959, in Anaheim, CA, the son of James and Virgina “Ginny” (Gerner) Poppe. From a young age he was always helping his parents on the farm and finding something he could take apart and put back together.
Helping his dad with their outboard motor company was one of Larry’s favorite things to do. He worked for the school bus company where he was a mechanic, driver and CDL road trainer for many years.
Larry also worked for the City of Hayward Police Department for 15 years along with being an EMT and a grounds keeper at Hayward Golf and Tennis.
Larry was united in marriage to Kathleen Thayer in 1981. They started their family catering business then he eventually worked at Lumberjack Steakhouse.
Larry was known as the guy with the best meat in town and loved cooking for any event. Because of this, he volunteered for over 20 years for Fishing Has No Boundaries, which was always one of his favorite events.
Larry was always known for his big smile, bear hugs and would help anyone with anything and never ask for anything in return. He loved his family, the Milwaukee Brewers and his favorite little man Cecil.
He is survived by his mother Ginny Scott; son Tom (Heather) Poppe; daughter Susan Poppe; grandson Cecil Poppe; brothers James (Janell) Poppe & Josh Poppe; sisters Marilyn (Tim) Young, Carol Hamblin & Pam Miller; many nephews & nieces.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife Kathy; and father James Poppe.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2025, at Pineview Funeral Service. Rev. Tim Young will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
