In Memory of Lawrence "Larry" J. Jensen

December 29, 1933 - September 22, 2026

Lawrence "Larry" Jens Jensen, age 92, of Rice Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026 in Rice Lake.

Larry was born on December 29, 1933 in Perry, Iowa to Louis and Leone Jensen. He moved to Charles City, Iowa in his high school years. Larry was a 5 sport athlete in High School and ran track for Iowa State where he earned his degree. Larry lived a vibrant life, had a dedicated devotion to providing for his family, was very creative, and had a famously quirky sense of humor.

A proud veteran, Larry served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in North Africa. It was during his younger years that he met the love of his life, his beautiful wife of 67 years, Sylvia Grassfield. Together, they built a beautiful legacy of love, commitment, and adventure, exploring the world on numerous wonderful travels.

Larry started his professional career at Rath Meat Packing but advanced his career as an architectural engineer for Oscar Mayer, where his talent and work ethic provided deeply for his family—a provision and dedication they will always cherish.

Beyond his career, Larry was a man of many passions. He had a love for all sports, enjoyed sailing, and earned his Master Gardener degree and generously shared his green thumb, volunteering his skills at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin. He brought that same passion for nature to Brentwood Assisted Living, where he continued to garden and share talents up until the age of 91.

Larry had a love for curling and curled for over 50 years. He was a member of the Rice Lake Curling Club and curled until the age of 91.

Larry is survived by his devoted children, son Dane W. Jensen (Stacey) and daughter Kirsten Jensen; his 2 brothers, Louis Jensen (Carolyn) and Lance Jensen; his cherished grandchildren, Clint Rowley (Mary), Alyssa Hughes (Andy) and Brittany Mejaki (Marc); and his adored great-grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Jensen, Chaley, Wally, and Arnie; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Jensen; and his parents, Louis and Leone Jensen.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Brentwood Assisted Living for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided to both Larry and Sylvia during his final years. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date. In his honor, laugh at a silly joke, tend to a garden, or raise a glass to a life beautifully lived.
