In Memory of Louis 'Bing' Hanson
Louis “Bing” Hanson, the “Gunslinger”, age 88, of Solon Springs and formerly of Lake Nebagamon, WI, passed away on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, at his home.
Louis Remington Hanson was born February 26, 1936, in Superior, WI, the son of Carl and Cecelia (Nys) Hanson. He was raised in Superior and graduated from high school there. In his youth he worked as a lifeguard and ski instructor. After high school, Bing continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, Superior where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. Bing became a police officer for the city of Superior and served the community for six years. On October 10, 1959, Bing was joined in marriage to Mary Schiesser at St. Francis Catholic Church in Superior. Bing also served in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1964. Bing went to work as a claims adjuster for Aetna Insurance Company in Superior. In 1974, Bing and Mary moved to Lake Nebagamon, WI where Bing would operate a Wausau Home dealership. He could be found at his favorite hangouts, Bridges Bar or Wasco Campground, spending time with friends. Bing retired and would work doing general construction work. Bing and Mary enjoyed spending their winter months in Daytona Beach, FL where Bing enjoyed soaking up the sun. In the early 1990’s, Bing and Mary moved to Solon Springs, WI. Bing was an avid gun collector, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, sail boating, and canoeing. He was a past member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Superior.
Bing is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; four children, Cece (Dave) Tepoel of Poplar, WI, Debbie (Steve Moss) Hanson of Lake Nebagamon, Carl Hanson of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Michele (Bud Flamang) Hanson of Ten Sleep, WY; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; good friends, Mike Karras and Chris Zoltak; and special pet, Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.
A private graveside service will be held at Lake Nebagamon Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #409 of Poplar, WI. A celebration of Bing’s life will be held at Wasco’s Campground in Lake Nebagamon on October 12th, 2024, starting at 3:00 p.m.
