In Memory of Lowell F. Swanson

November 10, 1922 - July 5, 2017

November 10, 1922 - July 5, 2017

Lowell F. Swanson, age 94, was called to his heavenly home and welcomed by his Savior on July 5, 2017.  He lived at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN since 2014.  He previously lived in Rollingstone, MN and Spooner, WI.

Lowell was born November 10, 1922 in Red Wing, MN to Oscar and Eva (Foster) Swanson.  He and his brother, LaVerne, were raised on a farm and attended school in Bay City, WI.

In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army and spent 2 ½ years on the front line in the 432nd Anti-Aircraft Unit in Africa and Italy until he was honorably discharged.  He was very proud of his service during WW2 and loved to reminisce and share his personal military experiences in great detail.

On January 1, 1947 he was united in marriage to Eleanor (Bonnie) Schultz in Red Wing, MN.  In 1952 they moved to Anchorage, Alaska and lived there for 8 years.  They moved back to Wisconsin during the 1960’s and 1970’s and he worked in Hastings, MN at Profile Extrusion.  He later worked at Economic Laboratories as a machinist in St. Paul, MN until they moved to Spooner, WI where he owned and operated his own sandblasting business until he retired.

Lowell was a dedicated member of the Spooner Honor Guard, VFW, and the American Legion.  He loved God and his family, and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake, WI.  He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Lowell was an example of intelligence, courage and good humor.  He has a knack for telling true events of his life.  He had many handyman skills and was never too busy to help others.  He loved being outdoors – fishing, camping, wood cutting, deer hunting, planting his large garden and feeding the birds.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eleanor (Bonnie) Swanson; children Pat (Gary) Fulton of Rollingstone, MN, Mike (Fran) Swanson of Killeen, TX, and Pam (Kevin) Perry of Austin, TX;  grandchildren Dan Fulton, Tricia Fulton, Jennessa (Stephen) Vullo, Lynn (Jeff) Leis, , Joshua Towey, great grandchildren Nick, Michael, Halle, Christopher, Taylor, Blake, Luke, Phillip, Claire; sister-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Kutschied; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother LaVerne Swanson.

Services for Lowell will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. a Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake, WI.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Winona Manor for the Wonderful personal care they gave Lowell.  Theresa and her entire team treated him like family.  We truly appreciate the care he received.
