In Memory of Lowell McFetridge


June 28, 1933 - December 5, 2021

Lowell “Sam” “Mac” Harlan McFetridge, 88, passed away on 5 December 2021.

He was born on 28 June 1933 at home in Loraine Township to parents, Victor and Cora (Johnson) McFetridge.

Lowell attended Frederic High School, graduating in 1951, and enlisted in the United States Navy on 8 April 1952. He achieved Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, serving in the South Pacific during the Korean conflict and was a veteran of the Korean War, honorably discharged on 13 March 1956. From May 1956 to November 1958, he served on the ore vessels A.E. Nettleton and Silver Bay sailing the Great Lakes for the Wilson Marine Transit Company. He then transitioned to the airline industry working as an aircraft mechanic for Continental, Western, and Delta in Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Salt Lake City, and the Twin Cities. He retired from Delta Airlines in 1993 after thirty plus years in the airline industry.

He met his wife, Marla Del Rae Shuck from Alcester, South Dakota in 1959 and they were married on 15 January 1960 in California and started raising a family soon after. They moved with the airline industry and lived in Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Minneapolis, MN, Prior Lake, MN, Salt Lake City, UT and retired to Lowell’s home farm near Clam Falls in Loraine Township. He was actively engaged for over sixty years with the Shriner’s, Mason’s, and Eastern Star and was affiliated with Landmark Lodge 244 F. & A.M. in Frederic, WI. In his spare time he very much enjoyed fishing and farming and reveled in every opportunity to do this with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Marla; daughter, Corla (Robert) Niesen; daughter, Christy (Todd) Baker; son, Craig (Kris) McFetridge; six grandchildren, Josh, Katie (Andrew), Andy, Dan, Megan, and Katelyn; and four great grandchildren, Kevin, Kenzie, Hailey, and Lily. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Phyllis Bench of Puyallup, WA.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Cora (Johnson) and Victor McFetridge; sisters, Maxine McFetridge and Norma (John) Guffey; brother, Wayne (Delores) McFetridge.

Please keep Marla and her family in your prayers. Lowell will be dearly missed. A masonic service followed by military honors is scheduled for 10:00AM, 7 January 2022 at Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic. A noon luncheon will follow the ceremony hosted by the W.O.L. at Clam Falls Lutheran in Clam Falls, WI.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home and the Northwest Wisconsin Cremation Center in Milltown.
