Lu was born on September 11, 1953, in Shell Lake, Wisconsin to parents Irvin and Marillyn (Kruger) Engbertson.  After she was born, the family moved to Lakeville, Minnesota, but then later moved back to Crystal where they lived equally between both sets of her grandparents.  She graduated Spooner High School and then went to work in Rice Lake at Birchwood Manufacturing.  While in Rice Lake, she met Ken Zimmerman and they were married on September 7, 1974 at the Trego Park in Trego.  The couple lived in Rice Lake for a time before moving to Spooner, eventually building their own home in Crystal Township.  Lu became a licensed Taxidermist and along with her husband started Zimmerman Taxidermy in 1980 out of their home.  Lu and Ken did everything together, including working side by side in the Taxidermy shop.  Lu was an official measurer for both the Boone and Crockett Club, Pope and Young Club, and also for the Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club.  Lu was a talented seamstress making wedding dresses, tuxedos, and family clothing.  She was the host for many family gatherings and had a passion for family genealogy.  She also loved to garden, canning, and had a gift for arranging flowers for weddings and other occasions. Lu was a very loving and caring person, she treated everyone as a friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Lu is survived by her husband Ken, son Kris (Autumn) Zimmerman of Bruce, WI, granddaughter Karina Zimmerman, brothers and sister: Dave (Lisa Scott) Engbertson of Fifield, WI, Linda Engbertson of Crystal Township, and Don Engbertson also of Crystal Township, and several nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends.

Lu is preceded in death by her parents, and son Matthew Marcus Zimmerman.
