In Memory of Marian E. Fryer

April 25, 1939 - July 31, 2023

Marian Eleanor (Vogt) Fryer, 84, of Amery, WI, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Marian was born in Winner, SD, to a farmer, Edward Wilhelm Vogt and Eleanor (Oetken) Vogt on April 25, 1939. Marian’s parents settled the family in Deer River, MN. She was the oldest of three children.

Marian sought after God from an early age, declaring her desire to follow the teachings of Jesus at age 11 in 1950. Her choice to accept God’s way was a constant guide to her. Marian will be remembered for her great love of meditating on scripture, seeking God’s will through prayer, and encouraging others to do the same. She cared about the souls of the entire world, wanting everyone to know and follow God.

Marian excelled in learning. Few would know that she was valedictorian of her high school class. Marian graduated from Bemidji State University in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in education, specializing in music and English. She taught 3rd grade for 3 years in Minnesota and 1 year in California. Marian loved music and taught piano for many years, seeking to instill a love of music in her children and young students. A highlight in her life was teaching English in China in 1994/95 with her husband, Roger. Her primary effort in life was raising three children and creating a sense of “home” wherever she went.

Marian married Roger Congleton Fryer on August 11, 1964, in Spring Valley, CA in her aunt and uncle’s home. They were married for nearly 59 years. They made their home in Elk Grove, CA where together they raised their family. Marian and Roger travelled the world together, visiting 50 foreign countries. Travelling gave Marian a deeper appreciation for fellowship in the Lord. Marian’s grandchildren received devoted love and many delicious fried fish. She delighted in having company over to enjoy homemade dinners and freshly baked bread.

Marian is survived by her spouse, Roger Fryer; her children: Vance Fryer, Lee Fryer, and Marjan (Chad) Schwartz; her siblings: Gary (Sandra) Vogt and Carol (Michael) Martin; her grandchildren: Jacob (Melia) Fryer, Loretta Fryer, Skye (Bryan) Belling, Canyon Schwartz, Annika Schwartz, and Aurora Schwartz; and her great-grandchildren: Lina and Roger Fryer.

Marian will be deeply missed for her quiet strength, thoughtfulness, gentleness, generosity, humility, kindness, and love. She had no enemies and would often carry the burdens of others. Marian would never fully comprehend how much she impacted the many lives of those she met. She won’t know the emptiness they feel from losing a loving friend. Marian was a sister, mother, and grandma to many around the world.

“Life has been rich with joy and sorrow interwoven. There’s hope for a far richer life in the future.” – Marian Fryer

A funeral service will take place at 5:30pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the Baldwin American Legion, 410 Maple, St., Baldwin, WI. A visitation will be from 3:30pm until the time of the service at the Legion.

Arrangements were made with Williamson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Amery.
