In Memory of Marjorie Lathrop

September 21, 1947 - January 25, 2022

Marjorie Kay Lathrop (Matton), 74, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, January 25 surrounded by family at the Crossroads Care Center in Sun Prairie, WI.

She was born at Lakeview hospital in Rice Lake, WI on September 21st, 1947 to Henry and Annie Matton (Nichols).

Marge was the kindest soul one could know. She was the second youngest of 13 kids and the youngest daughter. Growing up, Marge was sensitive, loving, and friendly. She married at the age of 20 and had three sons. She always wanted a little girl, so she was over the moon when two of her sons gave her granddaughters. One of her biggest joys in life was having fun with her children and grandchildren. In her old neighborhood, everyone knew her as Grandma, and they could count on her to have something fun to do. Marge loved making things with her hands and she shared that love with the whole community! She carved and cut wooden masterpieces and became known for them. She collected pinecones, with the help of her grandkids, to make them into beautiful Christmas wreaths. She loved to cook, craft, sing karaoke, braid hair, and play cards, especially euchre. She took great joy in watching and traveling to her youngest son’s fastpitch softball games and she was always there to protect all the children at the field. She cultivated a love for books in her grandkids by making frequent trips to the library with them, even though she wasn’t much of a reader herself. Everyone she met was touched by her kind words and warm heart.

Marjorie is survived by her 3 sons: Mark (Kristine) Lathrop, Scott (Wendy) Lathrop, and Bryan (Jennifer) Lathrop; 8 Grandkids; Ryan Cloutier, Tamara (Josh) Brunner, Kirstin Lathrop, Cody Lathrop, Emily Cloutier, Brittney (Ian) Mitchell, Zackery Lathrop, and Alex Lathrop; 2 great grandchildren: Levi and Malcolm Brunner; her sister: Barbara Knutson (Matton) and many other extended family members and friends.

She touched many lives, and the world is a better place for having had her in it. She is fiercely loved and will be sorely missed.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM Friday, February 4, 2022 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, with interment in Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated.
