In Memory of Mark F. Dahlberg


April 28, 1932 - December 3, 2022

Mark Frederic Dahlberg, age 90, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2022. Mark was born in Frederic, Wisconsin to Fred and Dorothy Dahlberg on April 28, 1932. He attended Frederic High School and went on to Gustavus Adolphus College then transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating in June 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During college he suffered an electrical accident while working on a power line and lost his right arm. He met Maude Veach of St. Paul, Minnesota on a blind date and they married shortly after graduation on June 16, 1956.

Mark and Maude began their life together in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he worked for Allis Chalmers in their electrical division. They moved to Grantsburg in 1964 when he accepted a position with Northwestern Wisconsin Electric Company. Mark also worked for North Central Power and Dahlberg Light and Power designing substations and wiring generator controls. In 1982, Mark became president of all three companies.

Mark was involved in many organizations, including Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. He served on many boards and has been president of the Grantsburg Industrial Development Corporation, the Burnett Medical Center Board, and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities. He served on the Village Board for 43 years and was the Village President for 15 of those years.

Mark’s faith was extremely important to him and he expressed it by teaching both youth and adult Sunday School classes, leading Bible studies, singing in the choir, serving on church council and the missions committee. His many other interests included traveling, sailing, coin collecting, sharing meals with friends, spending time at the family cabin, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He lived his life placing importance on faith, family, friends, and work.

Mark is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, his parents, his brother Dean, and nephews, Joel Binford and Eric Dahlberg, and great-nephew Monty Dahlberg.

He is survived by his children David (Julie) Dahlberg, Steven (Robert MacKean) Dahlberg, Lynn (Keith) Anderson, and Laura Dahlberg; grandchildren Andrew (Rosann) Dahlberg, Kathryn (Jason) Spatanuda-Castello, Derek Anderson, Nicole Anderson, and Mitchell Anderson; great-grandchildren Brianna, Joshua, and Grayson Dahlberg, and Clark Spatanuda-Castello; sisters Karen (Ken) Landro, and Gayle (Gene) Binford; sister-in-law Marlene Dahlberg, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 4-7pm at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home in Grantsburg. Celebration of Life will be at New Hope Lutheran Church in Grantsburg on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 11am (visitation from 10-11am) with Pastor Emory Johnson officiating. Pallbearers are Andrew Dahlberg, Derek Anderson, Mitchell Anderson, Tim Landro, Jay Landro, and Peter Keen. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor funeral home of Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
