In Memory of Marlene J. Hansen


November 11, 1935 - January 1, 2023

Marlene J. Hansen, age 87, formerly of Loretta, WI, passed away on January 1, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Marlene was born Nov. 11, 1935, in Ontonagon, MI, the first child of Moritz and Marie (Moseler) Kunsch.

The family lived a few years in Michigan before moving to Wisconsin. She grew up in Shanagolden and Glidden, graduating from Glidden High School in 1953. Marlene graduated from Ashland Teachers college in 1955 and continued with night classes from the UW-Superior. She moved to Sawyer County to teach and met her husband Basil W. Hansen Sr. of Loretta. They were married at the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Glidden, WI on Dec. 26, 1956. Marlene joined and worked alongside her husband on their farm on North Clover Road, Loretta, for 63 years. Marlene and Basil were parents to six children. She was an avid reader and was especially interested in local and Wisconsin history. Marlene will be remembered for the colorful flower gardens you saw as you drove up the hill and past the farm.

She is survived by two daughters Marklin (Greg) Mandt of Alexandria, VA and Veda (Thomas) Nordgren of Pulaski; 2 sons Basil (Christine) Hansen of Waupaca and Shawn Hansen of Eau Claire; seven grandsons Kehl (Mariah) Mandt of Bakersfield, CA, Taydon Mandt of Huntsville, AL, Conler (Ashley) Mandt of Brooklyn, NY, Orran Mandt of Arlington, VA, Evan (Ellen) Nordgren of Madison, Colin (Frannie) Nordgren of Deer Park, IL, Warren Nordgren of Racine; three granddaughters Taryss (DeVan) Sample of Falls Church, VA, Abigail and Allison Hansen of Waupaca; five great-grandchildren Milo and Leon Nordgren, Madison, Basil Mandt of Bakersfield, CA, Elizabeth and Madison Nordgren of Deer Park, IL.

She is also survived by two sisters Joyce Mattson of Morton IL, Judy Brogan of Lake City, MN, one brother Randy (Pam) Kunsch of Phillips.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Basil, one daughter Larynne Hansen and an infant son Kevin.

A graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2023 at the family plot in Winter, WI.
