In Memory of Marlys G. Vergin
Marlys Gayle Vergin, 86, formerly of Dallas and Barnes, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Monroe Manor in Barron.
Marlys was born on April 25, 1939 to Lloyd and Dorothy (Kellicut) Mizer. She graduated from Prairie Farm High School.
Marlys married the love of her life, Ronnie Vergin, on September 18, 1961 and raised three children.
Marlys lived a life full of love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her family. As a farmwife, mother, and hardworking waitress at the Dairyland Café, she gave of herself generously to all who knew her. But above all, nothing brought her more joy than preparing her family’s favorite meals and desserts, especially her famous potato salad, which she would often make in five-gallon batches for special occasions.
Her spirit was lively and vibrant—whether it was on the dance floor, in the pages of a book, or in her home where she lovingly displayed her collection of knickknacks, antiques and holiday decorations. Marlys had a talent for making everyone feel welcome and cherished, a gift that extended beyond her family to her wide circle of friends.
She was always up for a friendly challenge—whether it was antique collecting, a chili competition, or a game of pool. Marlys leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of warmth, creativity, and love for all who knew her.
Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Burr of Eau Claire; sons, Terry (Suzanne) and Scott (Krysta), both of Dallas; grandchildren, Matt Vergin, Heather Wheeler, Hollie Hall and Hope Anderson; several great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Solberg of Barron; as well as nieces and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Vergin; parents; brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Monroe Manor and Mayo Hospice for their loving care.
A funeral service for Marlys will be held on Monday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron. A visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
