In Memory of Mary A. Jorgensen
Mary Ann Jorgensen, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home on January 6, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary Ann was born on December 10, 1929, in Luck, Wisconsin, and grew up in Cushing, Wisconsin. She later made her home along the St. Croix River, a place she dearly loved and where many cherished family memories were created. Time spent by the river—watching the seasons change, gathering with family, and enjoying the beauty of nature—was deeply meaningful to her.
Early in her life, Mary Ann taught school in a one-room schoolhouse at Trap Rock School in Cushing, an experience that reflected her dedication, patience, and love of learning.
Mary Ann and her husband, Charles “Chuck” Jorgensen, built a life together rooted in hard work and partnership. Around 1952, they started an oil and gas business, growing it from a single oil and gasoline truck into a successful operation that included convenience stores as well as home heating oil and LP services. Their shared work was a point of pride and reflected their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to their family and community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, who passed away in 2010 after 59 years of marriage, and by her great-grandson, Van Carlson.
Mary Ann also treasured her many years in Florida, where she and Chuck lived on a golf course and enjoyed golfing with friends. Even after his passing, she continued to spend winters in Florida for another 15 years, sharing that time with her daughter, welcoming frequent family visits, and delighting in watching her great-grandchildren play and grow in a place she loved.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Steven “Steve” Jorgensen (Barbara); her daughter, Lorna “Lori” Jorgensen (Warren); her grandchildren, Harmony Carlson (Brian), Alex Jorgensen (Miranda), and Samantha Hoffman (James); and her great-grandchildren, Soren, Dane, Kai, and Lorne Carlson, and Finley Hoffman.
Mary Ann was an avid reader and a gifted artist, with a lifelong love of painting. Music was always an important part of her life, and she continued to play the piano and fill her home with music, especially during holidays and family gatherings. She found joy in the simple, everyday moments—morning coffee, playing games with family, and spending time together at home.
In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. A small family gathering will take place by the river this summer.
The family is deeply grateful for the love, care, and kindness shared with Mary Ann throughout her life.
