Mary Ellen Smith Age 88, of Rice Lake, WI, died Thursday, July 14, 2022 in Rice Lake.

She was born on July 9, 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota to Michael and Mary (Ackley) Novak.

Mary graduated from a catholic high school in Fargo, North Dakota. She was married to Donald Smith on May 28, 1954 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mary was a dietician and nurses aide at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake for many years. She enjoyed watching religious shows and programs, bird watching, deep passion for wild life and domestic animals, traveling, going out to eat, and loved being with her family and friends.

She is survived by 4 children, Don Smith, Jim (Geri) Smith, Mary Preston and Mike Smith; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Smith; parents, Michael and Mary Novak; a brother, Raymond Novak.

A Mass of Chistian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, July 28, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is handling the services for the family.
