In Memory of Marylin Backes

October 28, 1946 - October 4, 2021

Marylin J. Backes (Eveland), 74, of Chippewa Falls and formerly of Osceola, Wisconsin, passed away into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 4, 2021.

Marylin was born on October 28, 1946, in Havre, Montana to Martin and Agnes (Gustafson) Eveland.

She was the oldest of their 9 children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Her early years were spent attending school in Chester, Montana where she dreaded the walk across the tall grass lot of land to attend school, tossing handfuls of pebbles ahead to check for rattlesnakes. She was excited to move to Osceola, in her later elementary years, attending the Little Red school house with Mrs. Hjelle as her teacher.

Marylin met the love of her life, Everett, on a blind date set up by a school friend. She graduated from Osceola High in May of 1964, and they married in November. The remained married for 47 years when Everett departed.

The majority of her life was dedicated to raising her 7 children and helping with her oldest 2 grandchildren. She worked various jobs over the years as her children graduated.

Marylin and Everett enjoyed playing card games with friends at the Cedar Lake school house and at home when her siblings would visit. Most of her time was spent cooking or baking at home and at her parent’s place with her sisters. Many great meals were served at the homeplace in Nye!

She had a strong bond with her Eveland family, growing up listening to her dad, uncles and cousins play Bluegrass music. The highlight of her year was attending the annual Eveland reunion and catching up with her cousins from around the country. Although she couldn’t attend in person for the last 10 years, she stayed connected to them on Facebook, sharing memories, photos, and recipes, posting photos of family onto her timeline was a must!

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her granddaughter Jennifer who was her insomnia partner.

Marylin was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett, son Scott, sisters, Myrtle (in infancy) and Rosella Lee, infant brother Mason, brother-in-law, Ray Lee, and nephews, Michael and Matthew Lee and Jesse Eveland.

She is survived by sisters, Sharon (Don) Smith, Jean (Robert) Berggren and Mildred (Roy Kreft), brothers, John (Betty) Eveland and James Eveland, daughter, Sheri (Tony) Anderson, sons: Jeff (Tracy), Kyle (Heather), Dani (Karen), Brant (Jamie) and Bruce Backes and daughter-in-law, Jenny Kretman, grandchildren: Nicolas (Elizabeth) Lehmann, Jennifer (Joshua) Tacheny, Jessica Powers (Joe), Brian Backes, Tyler Backes, Cody Anderson (Mariah), Bryan Arnold (Britteny), Trevor Backes (Tasha), Jacob Backes, Adrianna Johnson (Teddy), Brittney Backes, Devin Backes, Te’a Anderson (Mitch), Alyssa Anderson, Austin Couch (Skylar), Alexis, Lilly, Colin, Shane and Ella Backes, 16 great grandchildren, 5 nieces, 4 nephews, several aunts and numerous cousins.
