In Memory of Matthew W. Schlapper

October 14, 1981 - June 27, 2024

Matthew William Schlapper, a devoted father, son, brother, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2024, at just 42 years old leaving behind a legacy of love and adventure that touched countless lives.

He graduated from Spooner High School in 2000 and has remained active in the community as a youth hockey and youth baseball coach. He graduated from UW-Superior in 2007. He was employed by TJ Electric at the time of his passing. He was a good man and a proud father.

His pride for his sons, Keb and Leif, was apparent to all who met him. Matthew's family was the center of his world. He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a hand, most times without being asked.

His love for the outdoors developed early in life and became a lifelong passion. Whether he was hunting on the family property or fishing on Lake Superior, Matthew found peace and joy in nature. His enthusiasm for hunting and fishing was undoubtedly passed down to his two boys, Keb and Leif.

He leaves behind many family and friends including: two sons, Keb and Leif; his faithful companion, Cotton; and his partner Kelly Mattmiller and her children. He also leaves behind his parents, Donn and Jill Schlapper of Spooner; his brothers, Patrick (Brittany) Schlapper of Eau Claire, WI and Scott (Megan) Schlapper and nephew Charlie, of Eau Claire WI; Aunts and Uncles Richard (Deb) Schlapper of Spooner; Dale and Jody Schlapper of Tucson, AZ; Michael (Pam) Smith of Bloomington, MN; Tom Smith of Barronett, WI; and Barbara (Keith) Crone of Winchester, VA; and many cousins.

He was welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, Howard and Jackie Smith and Ray and Mavis Schlapper.

Matthew's departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends. Yet, his spirit will live on in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A time of gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Friday, July 5, 2024 at the Spooner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Spooner youth hockey or Spooner youth baseball Leagues.
