In Memory of Maxine Wienbergen

November 10, 1932 - December 22, 2023

Maxine F. Wienbergen, age 91, of Spooner, WI passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Maple Ridge Care Center under Regional Hospice Care in Spooner.

Maxine was born on November 10, 1932, near Platteville, WI to parents Max and Faye (Ward) Schroeder.

She graduated from Platteville High School in 1951 and married Robert (Bob) Wienbergen on January 19, 1952, who was also from Platteville. While in Platteville they lived and farmed the Wienbergen Farm where three children were welcomed. In the early 1960s the family moved to Spooner, WI where one more child was welcomed into the family. In the late 1960s and early 1970s Bob and Max owned and operated the Spooner Sports Shop. In the early 1980s they moved to Florida where Max worked in the Banking Industry for many years. After their return to Spooner in the early 1990s, Max worked at the Spooner Bake Shoppe where she made many friends.

After retirement Max spent time volunteering at the local Food Pantry and at Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed going out to lunch with dear friends. She also played in her Bridge Club for years and loved hosting the “Bridge Girls”. She meticulously tended to the many beautiful house plants in her home and her outdoor flowers. But most of all, Max loved her family and friends.

Maxine is survived by her four children whom she adored, Neil (Roberta Plum) Wienbergen, Missy Wienbergen, Ann (Rick) Smallman, and Julie Wienbergen Fox; much-loved grandchildren, Teresa (Ryan), Bobby (Missy), Joe (Natalie), Tom, Patrick, Tyler (Kelly), and Jacob, plus she was blessed with eight beautiful great-grandchildren; and her beloved sister, Carolyn Wendorf.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; sister, Ardyth Rossing; and brothers Carl and Bob Schroeder.

A memorial service/celebration of life is being planned in the Spring of 2024.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church WELCA, specifying “Kids Meals” in the memo line; 1790 Scribner Street, Spooner WI 54801.
