In Memory of Mercedes L. Wickstrom


August 11, 1927 - May 13, 2026

Mercedes Louise (Dieckman) Wickstrom was born to Walter and Amelia (Haas) Dieckman at their home in Emerson Community, Cumberland, WI, on August 11, 1927, the youngest of six daughters. She attended Emerson School and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1945.

Mercedes was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Cumberland. On June 15, 1946, she married Roy Wickstrom at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They later joined Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley. She was employed for thirteen years as a night server at the Tower House, then retired after thirteen years at 3M in Cumberland. She devoted her spare time to her family and enjoyed entertaining family gatherings. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were all so special to her. Care and concern for others was always a priority in life.

She felt the love and closeness of a supportive family. She did not acquire a definite hobby, but was a talented seamstress, artist, and housekeeper, who also loved to cook, bake, and can food for the family. Her home was her castle.

She is survived by her sons, Fred (Lou), Barry (Debbie), and Kevin (Diane); grandchildren, Lesa (Mickey) Allen, Brian (Jamie Sue) Wickstrom, Jamie Lee (J.R.) Shaffer, and Cole Wickstrom; great grandchildren, Jillian (Justin) Knutson, Landon and Tucker Wickstrom, and Addison and Keenan Shaffer; and great great grandchild, Sadie Knutson.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Wickstrom; daughter, Karen Wickstrom, sisters, Alberta Loverude, Marie Hanson, Dorothy Johnson, Lucille Wahl, Marcella Dieckman, and half brother, Roy Dieckman.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley, and will be followed by burial at McKinley Cemetery.

A Visitation will be held from 4 PM - 6 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland, as well as one hour prior the service on Tuesday at church.
