In Memory of Michael Emerson
Mike Emerson, 70, passed away peacefully at home on May 18, 2025 after a courageous battle fighting cancer. He was born on September 10, 1954 in Shell Lake WI to David and Mary Emerson, He grew up north of Spooner on the family farm before graduating in 1972. He then enlisted into the US Air Force, serving as an active duty member and later as a civilian employee that spanned over 30 years within the civil engineering field. He retired as the Deputy Chief of Operations in 2011 from Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City SD.
In 1977, he married the love of his life, Julie (Luell). They made their home in the Rapid City SD area for over 30 years where they raised their 2 children, Wendy and Allan. After retiring, they moved back to the family property north of Spooner and started their own little hobby farm raising beef steers.
Mike loved the outdoors! He loved to farm, hunt, and fish. He enjoyed playing golf, a good game of cribbage, and dancing to some good ol’ country music. As busy and hardworking as he was, he enjoyed relaxing by a campfire or just sitting on the deck to watch the wildlife that frequently came through the yard.
He loved and adored his wife, children and grandchildren, his brother and sisters, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Giving the grandchildren tractor bucket rides and listening to their screams of laughter brought joy to his heart! He was a good friend - always lending a helping hand and support whenever it was needed. Mike will always be remembered for his witty words of wisdom, his hard work, and his love for his family and friends.
