In Memory of Michael J. Stachnik


February 16, 1942 - July 27, 2024

Michael J. Stachnik, age 82, of Hayward WI, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Essentia Health-St.Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth MN with his wife by his side.  

Michael Joseph Stachnik was born on February 16, 1942, in Chicago IL, to Michael and Pauline (Slachetka) Stachnik. While he was still young, his family moved to Thorp, WI where he was raised on the family farm. Michael attended school in Thorp and graduated from high school there in 1961. On September 18, 1965, Michael was united in marriage to Mary Ann Liszewski. Michael and Mary Ann built their home in Altoona, WI where they would spend the next 40 years of their life. One of Michael’s favorite pastimes was cutting and splitting firewood to heat their home. Michael worked for Gould’s and later at Link Brother’s as a meat cutter and went onto Ron Castle Foods in Eau Claire where he became manager before his retirement in 2007. In the summer months, Michael and Mary Ann enjoyed camping at Lake Wissota with family and friends. After retirement, Michael helped in the building of his dream home on Lac Court Oreilles. Michael enjoyed having friends and family to the lake home enjoying pontoon rides, campfires, playing cards and board games and sitting on the deck enjoying the beautiful view. Michael and Mary Ann in the winter months enjoyed vacationing and spending time at The Villages, FL. Michael and Mary Ann were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church when living in Altoona and are current members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward.  Michael was a very humble man and a loving and devoted husband.

Michael is survived by the love of his life, who he enjoyed 58 wonderful years of love and memories with, his wife, Mary Ann; his siblings, Joan Krueth, Judy (Larry) Olson, Sharon Obermann, Roseann (Ron) Lau; brother-in-law, Raymond (Judy) Liszewski; sister-in-law, Nancy Stachnik; nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by all.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ted and Anna Liszewski; brothers-in-law, Elmer Krueth and John Obermann.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, at the Hayward Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Another visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at the Hayward Funeral home from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, which will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Father David Neuschwander will officiate the Mass. The interment will take place at noon on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire WI.
