Michael R. Wells, 73, of Hayward, WI, passed away on June 2, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Rice Lake, WI.

He was born on February 9, 1953, in Grantsburg, WI, to Shirley Viola (Clover) Wells and Irvin “Bill” W. Wells. Michael graduated from Superior Senior High School and spent most of his career in the Tavern industry as both a bartender and proprietor of a few establishments throughout Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. He also spent many years as a telecommunications professional.

He volunteered for the Sawyer County Tavern League of Wisconsin and was a member of the Sno-Trails Snowmobile Club in Hayward, WI. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, loved Northern Wisconsin wildlife, and his dogs were his greatest companions.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and his father, Bill.

He is survived by his children, Eric Wells of St. Paul, MN, and Heather (Jim) Benedict of Roseville, MN; his five grandchildren: Caleb, Kinley, Hazel, Paige, and Marcus; his sister Cathy, brothers Doug and Tom; along with niece Hannah and nephews Ryan and Willie.

A small, private service will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life open to all later in the summer.
