Nellie Ellen Lee

Nell Lee, a lifelong resident of the town of Stinnett, WI died peacefully at her home on Monday, March 20, 2017.

She was born on July 15, 1940 to the parents of Ray and Ida (Correll) Shoquist. Nell was a 1957 graduate of the Spooner High School.  She married Bennett Lee, Jr. on July 23, 1960 and they raised their family in the township of Stinnett, WI.  Nell worked several jobs including town clerk, property assessor, and was a current member of the Washburn County Board.

Nell was a devoted wife, proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. Nell took pride in her family and the life that she built with her husband, Jr.  She was the happiest when her house was full of people.  She had a way of making everyone who walked through her front door feel welcome.  There was always room for an extra place setting at Nell’s table.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bennett Lee, Jr. and her sister Rayola (Shoquist) Ripley.

She is survived by her children David (Diana) Lee of Hayward, Steven (Yvette) Lee of Newark, IL, Larry (Janel) Lee of Minong, Lynda (Dan) Anderson of Spooner. Grandchildren Amanda, Bridget, Mike, Courtney, Jennifer, Robert, Cory, Bailey, Danielle, Eric, Ryan, McKenzie and 10 great grandchildren.  Siblings Marian Furchtenicht, Donald Shoquist, Verna Clyde and Sharon Wilbur.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Spooner Funeral Home, 306 Rusk Street, Spooner, WI 54801. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Namekagon United Church of Christ in Earl, WI.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be at the Earl Cemetery following the service.
