In Memory of Norma Jean Miller

May 11, 1937 - October 17, 2017

May 11, 1937  -  October 17, 2017

Norma Jean Miller, 80, of Spooner, WI passed away October 17th, 2017 in Spooner in the caring hands of her loving daughters. Norma was more commonly called Jean, Jeanie, Mom, Grandma Jeanie, or Grams.

Jean was born in 1937 in Superior, WI and was raised in Minong, WI by her parents Norm and Mona Adams. She graduated from Minong High School in 1954 as a junior; she then started college at UW Eau Claire. Jean was an excellent student and enjoyed all subjects. She stayed in Eau Claire until her heart led her to move back north to her soon-to-be husband of 54 years, Buster. Jean and Buster raised two daughters, Perri and Shelley, while living in Solon Springs, WI, Maple Grove, MN, and finally Spooner. Jean retired from Community First Bank in Spooner where she made lifelong friends and memories.

Jean had a strong passion for animals and helping those less fortunate than her. She enjoyed volunteering at the Washburn County Area Humane Society while playing with cats and walking dogs. Jean was a proud and active member of the St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. Her unwavering faith shown through in her generous giving of time, prayers, and resources.

As an avid sports follower Jean impressed friends with her knowledge of baseball standings and statistics. Her memory always served her well, never forgetting a birthday of a loved one. She could recite every line of Dirty Dancing and had an open crush on both Patrick Swayze and Chuck Norris. Perhaps Jean now has the opportunity to dance with Patrick as she always dreamed of. Most importantly, Jean was loved by her family and friends and will be missed so much.

Jean is survived by her daughter Perri (Rick) Smith of Barnes; daughter Shelley (Larry) Colby of Spooner; grandchildren Keith (Britta) Smith of Lake Nebagamon, Betsey (Justin) Dahl of Superior, Aimee (Jeremiah) Glonek of Lake Nebagamon, Sarah (Beau) Smith of Solon Springs, Bryan (Cullean) Colby of Minneapolis, and AJ Colby of St Paul; 12 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Buster; parents Norm and Mona, and brother Pard.

Services will be held for Jean on Monday, October 23rd at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner. A visitation will be held at 1 PM with a Mass shortly following at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Washburn County Area Humane Society in Jean’s name. Heartfelt thanks to Spooner Health for their genuine and compassionate care of both Jean and her family.

Just when Buster thought he was in the clear, he’s now got Jean to keep him inline again.
