In Memory of Patricia A. Sweet

July 13, 1938 - May 16, 2026

After a lifetime defined by family, hard work, and a selfless devotion to others, Patricia Ann Sweet passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family and the peace of her faith.

Pat was born at home on July 13, 1938, to Milton and Anna Mae (Randall) Semm in Sarona, WI. The values she would carry throughout her life were rooted in a childhood filled with farm chores, caring for her five younger siblings, and learning early how to put family first.

After graduating from Shell Lake High School, Pat moved to St. Paul, MN, where she found work in a knitting mill and later at a hearing-aid company. In 1958, she married Douglas Sweet, and together they built a life on the Sweet family farm outside of Barronett, WI. The early years were marked by raising children and making the best of a home life with few conveniences—running water and indoor plumbing wouldn’t come until 1966.

Pat juggled a number of jobs over the course of her life, sometimes as many as three at a time. She had a natural gift for making people feel welcome, a quality that served her well across years of restaurant work. She worked first as a waitress at the Tower House for 10 years and later at Spanky’s Supper Club for more than two decades. There she served tirelessly as a hostess, making neighbors, friends, and out-of-town visitors alike feel at home. She also worked many years at the Coast to Coast Hardware store in Cumberland.

Pat was perhaps best known for her decades at the Barronett Post Office, including 15 years as postmaster, becoming a friendly, familiar, and trusted presence in the everyday life of the community.

In retirement, Pat often set a daily goal for herself, writing it down and checking it off when achieved. She enjoyed traveling, drawing, doing puzzles, planting flowers, sewing blankets and other handmade gifts, playing games and taking classes at the senior center, watching birds (especially cardinals), writing countless notes, cards, and letters to others, and laughing and cooking with family. Anyone who stopped by the Sweet home knew there was a good chance Pat would have dessert ready—or even whip up a full meal—just because that was her way. Above all, Pat considered her family her life’s greatest blessing.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carol Johnson, and Carol’s husband, Lee.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Doug of Barronett; children John of Barronett, Julie (John) Stoner of Spooner, Janet (Reese) LeaVesseur of Billings, MT, Joanne of Cameron, and Jason (Cree) of Cross Plains, WI; grandchildren Justin (Nicole) Grensing of Cameron, Ashley (Nick) Parker of Billings, and Alyssa (Myles) Hiebert of Billings; five great-grandchildren — MacKenzie, Mason, Jenessa, Jeremiah, and Emil; siblings Bradley Semm, Janice (Larry) Sutherland, Sandy Chartrand, and Rocky (Pat) Semm; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat will be remembered for her warmth, her enduring spirit, and the constant, loving way she showed up for her family and friends every day.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Friday, June 19, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland.
