Patrick Allen Mattmiller, age 69, of Rice Lake, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at his home.

Pat was born on August 1, 1956, to Robert and Arline Mattmiller. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1974 and went on to build a successful career in telecommunications management with GTE and later Verizon. On October 4, 1980, he married the love of his life, Cheri Carlson, at First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake.

In 2000, Pat returned to his hometown and founded Dobie Hill Timberworks, where he pursued his lifelong passion for building. His craftsmanship and vision brought many timber frame structures to life throughout the area. Each one a reflection of his artistry, precision, and care. As one customer shared, “Pat’s legacy will be what he left in our eyes and the kindness he left in our hearts.”

Pat was known for his intelligence, patience, kindness, and extraordinary talent. There was truly nothing he couldn’t build. Every project he touched carried his unmistakable mark of excellence. Those who were fortunate enough to have his work as part of their home know the beauty and heart he poured into each project.

Above all, Pat adored his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people he loved most. His five grandchildren were the light of his life. He never missed an opportunity to share their stories, attend their activities, or simply make them laugh. He took great pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent together, whether it was building something in his shop, cheering them on at a game, or watching his whole family gathered around the table (he made) for a meal. Those simple moments, filled with laughter, conversation, and togetherness, were what made him happiest.

Pat is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Cheri Mattmiller; his daughters, Jennifer (Andy) Hodgson and Christine (Bob) Fink; five grandchildren, Carter and Wesley Hodgson, and Adalynn, Jackson, and Ella Fink; his mother, Arline (Mattmiller) Redeen; brothers Mike (Lori) Mattmiller and Brad Mattmiller; sister-in-law Sheila Mattmiller; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mattmiller, and brother, Mark Mattmiller. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Jon Cluppert officiating, with interment in the Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Tuesday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake.
