In Memory of Penny S. Scalzo
Penny Sue Scalzo, age 64, lost her courageous battle with cancer on the 21st day of February 2025. Her passing was peaceful, in her home surrounded by those closest to her heart, with her favorite movie ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ playing in the background.
Eighth in the lineup of George and Lorraine (Heitkamp) Cable’s offspring, Penny and her twin were born June 4, 1960. She was educated in the Spooner school system, graduating with the class of ’78. Penny happily lived most of her life in Spooner, Wisconsin, raising her sons and working a variety of jobs from clerk in the family grocery store to administrator at a law office.
A ‘perfect day’ for Penny was floating on Cyclone Lake in her flamingo tube, listening to Jimmy Buffet, sipping a cocktail. She enjoyed gathering with family and friends – especially around a bonfire.
Penny is survived by her husband of 40 years, Frank; sons: Shawn (Michelle) Dezek, Jeremy (Christina) Dezek, and Gabe (Betsy) Scalzo; Grandchildren: Camryn, Leah, AJ, Nadia, and Cecilia; siblings: Bonnie Larson, Jan Jensen, David Cable, Patti Gilberg, Joel Cable, Peggy Frey, and Lori Cable; mother-in-law Alice Scalzo, brother-in-law Tim Scalzo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins…
Penny is preceded in death by her parents, sister Cheri Melton, brothers-in-law Greg Jensen and Rick Gilberg, father-in-law Donald Scalzo, brother-in-law Leonard Scalzo, and sister-in-law Nancy Scalzo.
A time of gathering for family and friends to celebrate and remember Penny’s life will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Spooner Funeral Home from 4-6pm with a reception to follow at the Prime in Trego.
In lieu of gifts, please support our local Regional Hospice in Spooner at 819 Ash St., Spooner, Wisconsin 54801.
