In Memory of Perley Haugerud

June 27, 1924 - May 1, 2020

Perley L. Haugerud, age 95 a Wagon Landing native, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at home on Friday, May 1, 2020.

He was born on June 27, 1924 to Olof and Louise (Leseth) Haugerud on the same farm where he died. He was baptized and confirmed at East Immanuel Lutheran Church. Perley attended Wagon Landing grade school and graduated from Amery High School in 1942. Perley married Viola Elmer on September 30, 1944 and to this union six children were born. The couple celebrated their 75th Anniversary on September 30, 2019. Perley and Viola were dairy farmers until 1986. Over the years, he developed a fine herd of pure bred Holsteins, which he was proud of and well known for. After retiring, Perley read meters for Polk-Burnett and put up signs for Century 21. He and Viola were care takers of the Wagon Landing Cemetery for 19 years. This was a task they were dedicated to, because they wanted it always looking its best. Perley and Viola enjoyed dancing and the traveling they did. Perley was a 4-H leader and member of the Holstein Association along with serving on many boards. Perley and Viola always encouraged their children to participate in a variety of activities and they tried to attend them all, even if it meant starting chores a couple hours early.

Perley was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister who died at birth; daughter, Carol Mitchell; son, Chuck Haugerud; daughter in law, Judy Haugerud and great grandson, Carter Mitchell.

Perley is survived by his loving wife, Viola; four children, Bob (Bonnie Kennett) Haugerud, Susie Andren, Jim (Faye) Haugerud, David (Sonia Krause) Haugerud, son in law, Tom Mitchell and daughter in law, Sharon Glessing; grandchildren, Bob Haugerud, Stacey Vissers, Sara Vipond, Jon Andren, Carrie Haugerud, Amy Bluhm, Jill Haugerud, Jane Huggins, Brenda Laska, Tom Mitchell, Tony Mitchell, Brooke Squillace, Heather Laska, Jason Haugerud, Adam Haugerud; thirty three great grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren.

A private family service will take place at the Williamson-White Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to be announced at a later date.

Burial will take place at the Wagon Landing Cemetery.
