In Memory of Peter McGiffin
Peter McGiffin Age 56, of Barron, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and many friends on Friday December 20, 2024 in Rice Lake, WI.
He was born on September 26, 1968 to Robert and Shirley McGiffin. Pete graduated from Barron High School in 1987. He farmed with his dad for many years and they did custom combining until his dad died in 2001. Pete then teamed up with his mom and continued crop farming, keeping the farm going by enlarging the acres they farmed between renting and owning almost 2300 acres. Pete was very proud of the crops he grew. He was known as a great combine operator and in the fall would manage the farm operation from the seat of the combine.
After many years of crop farming Pete decided to start up Pete’s Dirt Works operating the backhoe and equipment doing jobs for people, which he loved the demolition part of it. He always said his backhoe was “His other girlfriend”. In his younger years he was in 4-H, FFA and showed the Clydesdale horses his family had at the county fair. Pete loved to have fun and had many hobbies, always looking forward to hunting season with the friends that could come and stay. His NTPA and WTPA tractor pulling was his favorite, pulling in the Super Stock Diesel class in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He had many many friends in the tractor pulling world. He also loved to ride UTV along with his companion of 13 years, Sue Haughian. They made many memories together. Pete said Sue was “His Better Half”.
He was a member of the NTPA and WTPA, served on the Barron Town Board for several years, worked for the Barron Township plowing roads and member of the Dusty Trail Finders ATV Club and most recently joined the Rice Lake Snow and Dirt ATV Club. Pete was a member of the Poskin Lake Sportsmen's Club helping out with their big Ice Fishing Contest. Pete was always known to lend a helping hand whenever he was needed. He was a charismatic personality throughout his life making friends wherever he went. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by his significant other and her family, Sue Haughian; a sister, Miriam McGiffin; He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley McGiffin; and a special friend, Marcus Miller.
