In Memory of Raymond Kort


March 29, 1934 - May 30, 2025

Raymond Kort, born March 29, 1934 to Joseph and Irene Kort passed peacefully May 30, 2025. He was raised in Shawano, WI formerly lived in New Brighton, MN and retired in Birchwood, WI. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Veteran.

Ray attended UW Madison on the GI bill, where he happily boasted a life-long membership to the Badger fandom. He was an electrical engineer at Control Data and ETA Systems in the supercomputer era, achieving a mention in the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. He loved sudoku, fishing, and hunting with his beloved dogs Jess and Chet. A known crooner and an avid tinkerer, there was never a problem he couldn’t solve from his armchair. And he could always be counted on to say yes to a slice of cherry pie with ice cream.

He is survived by his wife: Marilyn, children: Brad (Sherri), Kim Haller (Matt), Karen. His grandchildren: Lindsey and Aaron Kort, as well as Paige, Olivia and Abe Haller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Kort; 2 brothers, Roger and Edgar; and 3 sisters, Geraldine, Nancy and Patricia.

His family has requested any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the University of Wisconsin Foundation; specified to the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 at 1PM at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, where Full Military Rites will be accorded him by the Birchwood American Legion Post.
