In Memory of Rev. Quinten A. Buechner

January 5, 1942 - September 27, 2026

Rev. Quinten A. Buechner was called home to his eternal Father on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Cumberland Care & Rehab. He was born to Alvin Carl Buechner and Rose Van de Lune Buechner on January 5, 1942 in Kenosha, WI.

Alvin died of cancer in 1947 and Rose remained the family matriarch until her death in 1989, raising Quin and supporting him in all his efforts. He was raised in Kenosha, WI, New Ulm, MN, and Watertown, WI and graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School (WELS, now Luther Prep) in 1960.

Quin met his wife Helena Sophia Beers while both were working at Bethesda Lutheran Homes (now AbleLight) in Watertown, WI; they supported the work of this charity throughout the rest of their lives. They married on August 6, 1960 and he started college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. They then moved to LaCrosse, WI to teach.

In 1962, Quin joined the Army and served as a medic in Germany until 1965; their eldest daughter (Cheryl) was also born there. They returned to Watertown for Quin to complete his bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degree in education; their second daughter (Cat) was born in nearby Fort Atkinson.

In 1969, they moved to Kent, Ohio to begin his doctoral degree in history (not completed). He was present at the May 4, 1970 shooting at Kent State University and honored the students’ and Guards’ memories every year since. At KSU, he worked as director of grants and contracts and taught in the business college. He and Helena became leaders in Marriage Encounter. While in Kent, their son (Alvin II) was born in nearby Ravenna.

In 1978, he was called to the ministry; the family moved to Mankato, MN for two years so he could learn ancient Greek and Hebrew. The family moved again to Milwaukee, WI in 1980 so he could complete his master’s of divinity at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WELS) in Mequon, WI. While there, they adopted another son, Carlos. Quin served a church in Shiocton, WI, before returning to Milwaukee in 1986 for personal family reasons. He worked for the Medical College of Wisconsin in medical billing and coding and served in prison ministry until Alvin’s sudden tragic death in February 1997.

Following Alvin’s death, he and Helena moved to Cumberland, WI to be nearer to their daughters and grandchildren. One of his great joys was to baptize his grandchildren Conor and Myles Erb, Dakota Buechner, and Falisaty (Buechner) Morel. He worked as a national consultant teaching and defending physicians from billing fraud. Quin and Helena then moved to live with Cheryl and helped her raise the children.

After the grandchildren were grown, Quin and Helena changed their membership to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and helped the local district as a vacancy and circuit pastor. Helena went home to the Lord in March 2019. Quin moved in with his daughters and accepted a call to serve as pastor of Silver Creek Lutheran Church until resigning for medical reasons in February 2025.

Throughout his life, he read science fiction, fantasy, and history; enjoyed playing strategy and historical games; and collected Roman era soldier figures. Every family vacation was bound to include multiple historic site visits, from Hadrian’s Wall (Roman empire) in northern England and Heidelberg Castle in Germany (Renaissance and Reformation), to Boston, MA and Fort Ticonderoga, NY (Revolutionary War), Fort George and Old Fort Niagara (War of 1812), Gettysburg, PA and Pea Ridge, AR (Civil War sites), and Mount Rushmore, Mesa Verde, Yellowstone National Park, Little Big Horn, and Mammoth Cave (historic sites).

Quin is survived by children: Cheryl, Cat, and Carlos (Jen Reinke); grandchildren: (in age order): Conor (Dani) Erb, Kaitlyn (Jade) Enger, Antonio Buechner, Austin Hagee, Myles (Tiffany) Erb, Dakota Buechner, Falisaty Morel, and Summer Buechner; and great-grandchildren: Lincoln Bents, Riley Schultz, Valkyrie Buechner, Crew Erb, Avonlea Erb, Atticus Morel, Ridge Erb, Graciela Flores, Henley Erb, and Selah Erb.

Eulogy and service will begin at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Silver Creek Lutheran Church (483 Seventh Avenue, Clayton) presided by Rev. Isaac Nicholson and Rev. Tylan Dalrymple. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Service will be followed by snacks provided by the Silver Creek congregation.

He will be cremated and interred with military honors at Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery with his beloved wife Helena and son Alvin, on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM. His headstone will remind us “I know that my Redeemer lives…in my flesh, I will see God” (Job 19:25, 26).

Quin preferred flowers from family only. He asked that donations in his memory be made to: Ablelight.org/in-memory (LCMS missions, WELS missions)
