In Memory of Richard Green Sr.

October 12, 1945 - July 18, 2019

Richard D. Green Sr Age 73, of Town of Big Bend, Weyerhaeuser, WI passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home surrounded by family.

Richard was born on October 12, 1945 to Raymond and Genevieve Green of Elroy. In 1971, he was united in marriage to his soulmate, Jennifer Green.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jennifer Green (Hoppenrath), daughter Kelley (Craig) Dammen of Milton, sons Richard (Jenna) Green of Rice Lake and Joe (Michele) Green of Willard.  He has seven amazing grandkids, Alexis, Libby, Caleb, Sadie, Grace, Ashlyn, and Michael, that loved him dearly and continue to make him so proud! Richard has eight siblings, Rita (Richard) Zietlow of Friendship, Joanne (Don) Wopat of Elroy, Dennis Green of Forsyth, MO, Wanda Dogs (Rick) of Elroy, Doug (Judy) Green of Elroy, David (Lori) Green of Elroy, Rodney Green of Elroy, and Steven (Colleen) Green of Elroy. He has countless nieces, nephews, and family friends that meant the world to him.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger and Larry, and In-laws Melville and Berneice Hoppenrath, brothers-in-law John Dogs and Rickey Hoppenrath, and sister-in-law Berneice Renfrow.

Richard loved God and country and served in the United States Army and was proud of his service as a Vietnam Veteran.  His service required his help in unloading ships of Agent Orange, which ultimately took his life. He always said he had it easy compared to the others, but we all know nothing is easy in the military, especially in times of War.   Richard also served as a federal firefighter at Fort McCoy Military Base for many years. His service to others has been second to none and always a priority to him. Deer hunting and fishing, shaking dice, playing cards, watching his grandkids, mowing his yard, cooking with his own recipes and taking UTV rides were all things that Richard enjoyed.  His love for people was always obvious, down to his last minutes of life.

Graveside Services will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI, where Full Military Rites will be accorded him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is in charge of the arrangements.
