In Memory of Richard J. Perkins


February 7, 1936 - July 28, 2024

Richard Perkins, age 88, of Winter, WI passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at his home.

Richard John Perkins was born February 7, 1936, in Beloit, WI the son of Leslie J. and Vera (Shead) Perkins. Dick was raised in South Beloit where he attended school. After school he joined the U.S. National Guard and served active duty in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. On May 16, 1959, Dick was joined in marriage to Sharon Louise Norwood in Rockford, IL. Dick and Sharon settled in Beloit where Dick worked for Klenzade (which later became Eco Lab) mixing chemicals. While working, Dick took up pool, bowling, slow pitch softball and playing horseshoes. All of these pastimes he would play until he felt he had reached his peak and then move onto the next. Dick spent 32 years with the company and was made Supervisor for several different departments while he worked there In 1992, Dick and Sharon moved to Winter, WI where he enjoyed fishing, maintaining the property and being in nature. Dick will be remembered for his eagerness to help others and kindheartedness. He was a member of St. Judes Catholic Church in Beloit and St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winter. He also was a member of the Wisconsin American Legion for the past 39 years and served as chaplain for Post #303 in Winter.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sharon; son, Russ Perkins of Winter, WI; grandson, Shawn Perkins; granddaughter, Stacey Hopkins; great granddaughter, Stella Perkins; two brothers-in-law, Tom and Duane Norwood; one sister-in-law, Nancy Ferguson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Duke Perkins and sister, Pat Jones; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Borresson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Dick at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winter. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Interment will follow at the St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winter.
