In Memory of Robert C. Aakhus

July 10, 1935 - October 12, 2022

Robert Carl Aakhus, 87, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, just as he wanted, on October 12, 2022, after a long battle with IPF. He was born July 10, 1935, in Willow River, MN, the son of Carl Gunsten and Dora (Grugal) Aakhus.

Bob graduated from Willow River High School in 1953 and Concordia College with a double major in Math & Physics in 1957. The best part of Concordia College was that he met his loving wife of 66 years, Carol Joanne Moore. Bob and Carol were united in marriage on December 21, 1956.

Bob had a meaningful and long career in engineering starting in 1957 and retiring from Honeywell, Inc. in 1993. During his career he was instrumental in the improved reliability of torpedoes still in use today and contributed to the Atlas missile and Gemini and Apollo space programs. He also lived a wonderful life supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s interests as their biggest fan along with enjoying many family vacations and best of all creating a lifetime of family fun at the cabin which was his special place on Fish Lake. Family, friends, knowledge, and faith were the most important things to him. If you had a question, he likely knew the answer.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Miles Aakhus. He is survived by his wife, Carol (Moore) Aakhus; children, Pamela (Mark) Sandelin, Craig (Jill) Aakhus, Steven (Cindy) Aakhus and Paula Aakhus; sister, Carol Ouellette; ten grandchildren, Carl and Carolyn Sneep, Blake, David and Amy Aakhus, Ariel (Jon) Thompson, Erik Aakhus, Cooper (Clara) Aakhus, Matthew Ekstrand and Daniel Skarsten; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 22nd, at 10:00 am at Lakeside Community Lutheran Church, 28626 Country Road H, Webster, WI 54893 followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am with Pastor Lowell Bolstad officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
