In Memory of Roger L. Anderson

February 12, 1935 - February 8, 2023

Roger Lincoln Anderson, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

How does one summarize the life of a wonderful and quiet man who loved the Lord and cherished his family? How do we capture the twinkle in his blue eyes when he looked at his wife of 68 years, or the excitement he would exhibit when the Brewers won a ball game? Like his jigsaw puzzles that came together one piece at a time (always the frame first), we have put together this tribute to the man we love.

He was born February 12, 1935, at his family’s farm in Grantsburg Wisconsin. Roger attended school in Grantsburg and when he was 18 he went to work on the ore boats on the Great Lakes. When he was home in the winter of 1953 he met his wife Delores Berg at a dance in West Sweden, and they were married on May 29, 1954.

Roger worked at various jobs from 1954 until the fall of 1957 when he went to work for Tretsven Auto Company as a parts man and salesman. After 17 years in the automotive industry, Roger went to work for the local bank as an Ag Lender and Assistant Vice President. After 24 years he retired from banking. Being an Ag Lender was a natural fit for Roger as he was also a farmer. He and Delores owned a small dairy farm in North Valley where they raised their five children. Roger was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Roger was an avid gardener raising many types of vegetables that he and Delores would can each fall. He also enjoyed cooking and was excited to try new recipes, as well as old-time favorites. He loved recording the weather and kept track of the daily temperature and the amount of precipitation that had occurred. His two favorite things about his cell phone were his weather app. and sports updates.

Both Roger and Delores were avid Packer fans and proudly cheered on the “green and gold”. Roger was also a Brewer’s fan and couldn’t wait for opening day each season. Each year, one of the family’s earliest spring rituals was to see who could spot the first robin. Roger and Delores loved watching the birds outside on their bird feeder. They would wake up, have their morning coffee and watch to see what birds were visiting them for a quick snack. He also enjoyed being out in nature hunting and fishing. In addition, he liked to read and write poetry and listen to music. Roger was a man of many talents, hobbies, and interests.

Roger was preceded in death, by his grandson Walter Johnson, parents Peter and Faye Anderson, brothers Kenneth Anderson, LuVerne Anderson, and Peter Anderson, sister Eileen Anderson, brother-in-law Wally Madsen, and sister-in-law Luella Anderson. He leaves to celebrate his memory, wife Delores Anderson; children Wayne (Susan) Anderson, Pamela (Ricky) Johnson, Mark (Lisa) Anderson, Cindy (Michael) Mabry, Sandra (Tom) Mabry, sister Shirley Madsen and sister-in-laws Helen and Marlene Anderson; plus a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Monday, February 13, 2023, at North Valley Lutheran Church. The visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, a graveyard ceremony will be held at the Milltown Cemetery.

The Kolstad Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
