In Memory of Selma M. (Purintun) Walczak


January 9, 1928 - January 28, 2025

Selma Walczak, age 97, passed away on January 28, 2025, in Burnsville, Minnesota.

Selma was born January 9, 1928, in Barron, Wisconsin to Leroy and Mary Purintun. She was raised on a small farm east of Chetek, Wisconsin, and graduated from Chetek High School in 1946. Selma married Stanley Walczak of rural Rusk County, on April 30, 1947. They raised three sons living in Chetek until 1969 when Selma, Stanley, and Kim moved to Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and then to Wausau, WI, living there until their retirement, moving back to Rice Lake, WI, and in 2012, back to Chetek.

Selma and Stanley spent many retirement winters in McAllen, TX, where they met many new friends from the Midwest and spent their time dancing.

Selma had many hobbies including gardening, especially flowers, sewing, quilting, making teddy bears, beading, and most of all, polka dancing.

Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, great-grandaughter, Brittney Steinmetz, daughter-in-law, Tracy Walczak (Kim), parents, Leroy and Mary, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.

She is survived in life by her sons, Stanley Walczak (partner Carolyn Senty), Hayward, WI; Terry (Kathleen) Walczak, Rosemount, MN; Kim Walczak, Rice Lake, WI; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandsons, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Chetek, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 AM. The family invites those attending to a luncheon following the service. Selma will be interred next to her husband, Stanley, at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
