In Memory of Sharon J. Sweeney
Sharon Janice Sweeney (Myhre) passed away peacefully at her home on November 26, 2023.
Sharon was born on January 26, 1949 to Pearl and Henry Myhre. She was the youngest of eight children. Sharon attended school at Monroe Community in St. Paul, Minnesota. Sharon went on to have six children and married George Sweeney. She was a stay at home mom for 17 years.
Ma, as many of my friends and family addressed her, lived and loved to be a mom, grandma, and even a great-grandma.
Mom taught us many things—you get what you put into the world through dedication, motivation, and hard work. One example is that mom taught us through saving and self-discipline you can buy yourself nice things. Ma always taught us that we can overcome obstacles in life through hard work. She fought and won many battles—her addiction to cigarettes, alcohol, leaving an abusive relationship, biting her nails, and over-indulging in unhealthy snacks; those are just a few, but some of her proudest accomplishments. She taught us the possibilities are endless.
Sharon loved her family. She enjoyed Pepsi, bite-sized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Lays potato chips. Sharon also liked visiting, especially with family and friends. She liked baking, listening to music, and watching movies, soap operas, and The Talk.
Sharon was proceeded in death by her parents, Pearl and Henry Myhre; sisters: Delrose, Mavis, and Joann; brothers: Aldeen, Duane, Lavern, and Larry; and ex-husband, George Sweeney.
She is survived by her 6 children: Terry (Destiny) Myhre, Kelly (Michael) Meck, Sandy (Steve) Hipkins, Susie (Dan) Pream, David Myhre, and Laura (Jeremy) Miles; 12 grandchildren: Kate, Megan, and Sarah Meck, Jason and Brian Myhre, Chris Hawley, Justin and Jake Myhre, Amanda and Briana Pream, also Damion and Ema Lee Miles; and her 3 great-grandchildren.
On behalf of our family, we want to send a sincere thank you to Sara, her home care nurse, her home care helpers, Lincare, Meals on Wheels, Dakota County CDA, Martha—her neighbor and best friend who spent countless hours assisting her, officer Green with the Hastings Police Department who patiently waited with her after her passing until family arrived, Hastings Police Department for their quick response to the wellness check, and all other parties who assisted and cared for our loved one.
