In Memory of Sherry L. Miller

November 19, 1956 - April 17, 2024

Sherry L. Miller, age 67, of Grantsburg, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by her side on April 17, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

Sherry was born on Nov. 19, 1956 to parents Richard and Gwendolyn (Piatt) Miller in Minneapolis, Minn. She was one of five other siblings born to this marriage. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis.

On March 19, 1977, Sherry was blessed with a daughter, Sonya (Casey). Before her daughter was born, Sherry had a love of watching figure skating as she was growing up. For this reason, she decided to name her daughter after the Norwegian figure skater and film star, Sonja Henie who she was a fan of. After Sonya was born, they continued to live in Minneapolis until they made the move to Frederic in the mid 1980s.

Sherry’s longest career that she thoroughly loved and was passionate about was with Provide Care, being a personal care assistant. She enjoyed the role of helping and taking care of others and took that job very seriously. She touched many lives while being in the role of a caretaker. She was with Provide Care for many years, until she was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer in 2020.

One of Sherry’s favorite things to do was to ride around Crex Meadows and see the wildlife with her family, especially in the warmer months with the windows down. She also would usually never turn down a game of 10,000, King’s Corner, Cribbage, or Skip-Bo. Besides playing games, she was also quite good at crocheting, even teaching her granddaughter the skill of crocheting and also cross-stitching as she grew up.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Gwendolyn (Piatt) Miller; brother, Charles Miller; nephew, Zachary Kleve; a couple aunts and uncles; and her best friend of over 26 years who lost her battle to cancer due to COVID in 2021, Julie Albrecht.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonya (Jeremy) Casey; grandchildren, Kayla Casey, Austin (Makenna) Casey, Kadin Casey; great-grandchild, Jaxon Casey; sisters, Becky Henson, Robyn Miller; brothers, Raymond Miller and John Miller; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sherry remained strong throughout her battle with cancer, and even in the end, she had found ways to smile and remain strong. She will always be remembered for her strength, stubbornness, and love for her family.

The family would like to thank Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home for helping with the arrangements. They would also like to thank the Cancer Center of Western Wisconsin in Frederic for always taking good care of Sherry while she was there for her treatments, and for her oncology team at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota Oncology, and lastly, St. Croix Hospice for helping to keep her comfortable at the end of her battle.
