Sonja Jean Buckman, 78, of rural Turtle Lake passed away April 5, 2022.

She was born November 5, 1943 in St Paul, MN to Edward and Ruth Johnson.

In 1962 she and the love of her life, Jim, married after knowing each other since they were children. They made their home in St Paul for the next thirty years where they raised their three children. Sonja worked for a computer chip manufacturer in the ‘clean room for many years. Sonja experienced a series of serious health events that led to early retirement. They moved to the lake home where she spent the next twenty six years. Despite her physical limitations, Sonja loved to paint, do ceramics, journaling, and read the Bible.

Sonja is survived by her husband: Jim Buckman; children: Trisha (Korky) Ebensteiner, Tracy (Robert) Buford, and Ron (Susie) Buckman; grandchildren: Kiara Buford, Devante Buford, Jada Buford, Tyler Buckman, and Mira Buckman; great grandchildren: Londyn Turner, and D’Starr Turner; brother: John (Doria) Johnson; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Ruth Johnson; infant sons: Terry and Troy; and sister: Darlene Erickson.

Services will be at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena at 11AM, April 16 with Pastor Preston Paul officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church with lunch following the service.
