In Memory of Sophie Slipher

May 6, 1934 - March 12, 2021

Sophie Elizabeth Slipher, age 86, of Blaine Township passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 with her family by her side.

She was born on May 6, 1934, to Michael and Apolonia Mihna in a neighbor’s garage in Dairyland.

Sophie first married Richard Cook. Together, they had 3 sons and 2 daughters. On June 6, 1966, Sophie married Donald Slipher. Their friends, Jack and Janis Young stood up for them. Sophie and Donald then had one daughter, Donna.

Don and Sophie enjoyed having people over to share their farm and animals with everyone. Together they raised pigs and cows and Sophie always had chickens, lots of chickens. She was a true animal lover and so Donnie wasn’t surprised to come home to a new critter which may include donkeys, goats, peacocks or a new chicken!

She was a hard worker and prided herself in canning enough food to feed the family. She was known to can everything and anything. She loved to pick berries and if the patch was calling, you had better pack your Sophie coffee and Cowboy cookies because it was going to be a long day.

She spent over 35 years working at Hillside Inn and Cozy Corner Inn. Sophie was an outgoing and caring person who always had a smile on her face. She had friends young and old that came to see her.

Sophie was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, auntie and friend.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Mike, Steve and Joe; sister, Mary; and son-in-law, Garland Green.

She will forever be missed by her husband, William “Don” Slipher; children, Donna (Ken) Slipher-Jones, Bonnie Green, Michael Cook, Cecile Paulich, Geno (Nina Mummey) Cook, Rick (Laurie) Cook; grandchildren, Jason, Genia, Netta, Joe, Alyssa, Amber, Rob; great grandchildren, Harper, Charlee, and Emma, Jacob, Jensen, Zeke, Sophie, and Lily; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A private family service will be held at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home with interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Blaine Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Maple Ridge Care Center Activity Department in Sophie’s name.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
