In Memory of Stephen Shafer


August 19, 1940 - September 1, 2019

Stephen Wesley Shafer died peacefully at the U of M Hospital in Minneapolis surrounded by his family on September 1, 2019.

Stephen was born on August 19, 1940 in Menomonie, WI. He spent the first part of his childhood in Washington state and eventually going to school and graduating from Colfax, Wisconsin. As an adult he moved to the north Hudson area, raised his family, and worked as an iron worker. After that he had his own auto repair shop in north Hudson for many years.

In 1995 he moved to Frederic, WI and married Judy Bakke in May of 1998.

Steve had a huge passion for old collector cars and tractors and tinkering in his garage fixing things. He loved to be outdoors, and was looking forward to going to his winter home in Arizona. He also had a love for his dogs which he had many over the years. He had a very outgoing personality, a wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Pitts and Palmer Shafer; his brother, Ronald; and grandson, Brenden.

He is survived by his wife, Judy of Frederic; daughter, Tami (John) Schullo of Hudson; sons, Craig (Debbie) Shafer of Roberts and Steve Shafer of Roberts; step-daughter, Kara Dahm of Milwaukee; step-son, Allen Dahm of Chippewa Falls; his beloved step-daughter, Kelsey Mae Dahm of Frederic; step-son, Ian Dahm of Colorado; brothers, Bruce Pitts, Gregg (Tam) Pitts of Oregon; sisters, Linda (Ron) Hixson of Oregon, Sharon Pierce of Washinton, Cheryl, Diana and Teri; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members too numerous to mention.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date this fall. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home.
