In Memory of Steven R. “Elf” Elfers


September 4, 1963 - March 21, 2026

Steven Romaine “Elf” Elfers, 62, of Almena, passed unexpectedly on Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was born September 4, 1963, in Milwaukee, WI to Romaine and Beatrice (Becker) Elfers. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School and attended UW River Falls.

He was married to Denise Dostal on February 20, 2010.

He was a talented construction worker and owned Elfers Residential Remodeling. Steve’s faith was his guiding force. He made sure to be the hands and feet of Christ to those he encountered. Steve did this by calling often just to check up on you.

Steve enjoyed anything outdoors but especially snowmobiling, ATVing, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, Steve loved and cherished the time spent with his family, friends, and the 50/50 Deer Hunting Camp. His love for them was unconditional.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denise; children: Jacinda (Charlie), Alexander (Sophia), Paula (Patrick), Brittany (Josh), and Austin (Cassandra); grandchildren: Kai, Ariana, Harleigh, Haislee, and Chelsea; granddogs: Nyx, Oakley, Tig, Evie, and Coco; mother, Beatrice (Dave) Elfers of Scandia, MN; brother, Michael (Brenda) Elfers of Rice Lake; sister, Lisa (Glenn) Mevissen of Sarona; nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Romaine Elfers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, April 3, 2026, at Red Cedar Church, Rice Lake with Pastor Todd A. officiating. Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery, Haugen, following there will be a celebration of life at Spare Time Bowl Bar and Grill in Turtle Lake.

Pallbearers are Eric Solum, Bruce Cherney, Al Checkalski, Mike Dietrich, Kevin Molls, Marc Johnson, Joe Kern, Paul Freitag, and Glenn Mevissen.

Honorary pallbearers are Kurt Wilson and Jason Burke. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to your local ATV/Snowmobile club.
