In Memory of Susan M. Spellman

January 16, 1941 - August 27, 2025

Our incredible mom, Susan Marie Spellman (Drury) left this world on August 27, 2025, at the age of 84. She was the heart of our family, a beacon of light and a source of unwavering strength for all our family.

The first daughter born to Marshall and Jesse Drury, Susan grew up in Eau Claire, WI, where her competitive spirit was founded through Quiz Kids competitions, sports, and academics. Upon graduation, Sue moved to Madison, WI and worked for the State of Wisconsin. In Madison, on a blind date, Sue met her true partner in life, our dad Patrick Spellman, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and many lake adventures. Sue stayed home and raised her three children, while staying involved in her church, politics, and community service. Upon returning to the workforce, Sue worked for the University of Wisconsin, retiring in 1998.

Sue’s generous spirit was the center of our home. Sue’s love of family and friends came to life at family gatherings, holiday celebrations, annual parties, including the annual St. Patrick’s Day party. She spent many “big fun days” with her grandchildren, teaching them how to make “grandma’s pancakes” and creating new adventures that brought joy to our lives. Sue and Pat retired to Blarney Bay in Hayward WI in 2000 and spent many winters between Lake Havasu, AZ and Pass Christian, MS. The joy of friends and lake life adventures filled the past 25 years. These memories made will be cherished by all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Patrick Spellman; daughter Lisa and son-in-law Stosh; son Tim and partner Kelli; and her adored grandchildren, Patrick, Maggie, Kylie, Stephanie, Paisley, Stevie and Star. She is also survived by her little sister Linda Newman, in-laws Tom & Dona Spellman as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Spellman (Stella); parents Marshall & Jesse Drury; brothers Don Drury and Dave Drury; sisters Barb Clough and Trish Franck.

The family will hold a private burial. A celebration of life is planned for Sept. 13 at Quivey’s Grove, Stable Grill, Fitchburg, WI. Friends & family are welcome to drop in and share memories anytime between 12:30-3:00.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caretakers at Aspen Acres Memory Care and Moments Hospice for their kindness and care shown to Sue during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hayward Community Food Shelf (haywardfoodshelf.net).
