In Memory of Sydney Nevin

June 29, 1923 - January 11, 2022

Sydney Gene Nevin, 98, of Cumberland died, January 11, 2022, at Maple Ridge Care Center.

He was born June 29, 1923 in Cumberland, WI to Samuel and Gertrude (Warland) Nevin. Sydney joined the U.S. Army in 1943.

He was married on July 20, 1944, to Carol (Slaght) Nevin who preceded him in death on May 15, 1987.

Sydney worked many jobs throughout his life ranging from being a mechanic to being a dairy farmer. He also hauled milk for the Turtle Lake Creamery, and was known to bring treats home on occasion. There was not anything that he could not fix with elbow grease, twine, and duct tape.

When he was not working he could be found dancing, even into his 90s. He was kind, sociable, and always thankful for everything. Sydney loved life and gave the best hugs and kisses; those tender moments will be remembered fondly.

He is survived by his daughters: Carolyn Nevin (Rich Henrikson) of Danbury, WI, Linda Woolson of Casa Grande, AZ, Susan (Mike) Capra of Birchwood, WI, Debra Fox of Cumberland; nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Danielle, Chad, Nathan, Kim, Brad, Bryan, Shawn, and Shelby; 16 great grandchildren: Aria, Paige, Brooke, Madisyn, Samantha, Nick, Nikki, Skyler, Taylor, Snowden, Greydon, Noah, Elijah, Ashton, Kiera, and Owen; great great grandson, Jorah; numerous sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. Sydney was preceded in death by his wives, Carol of almost 43 years and Phyllis of 26 years; brothers: Robert, Clyde, Richard, Darold, Wayne, LeRoy, and Lloyd; son-in-law, Albert Fox.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday March 18, 2022 at First Lutheran Church - Cumberland with Pastor Timothy Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by Anderson-Thomson Post #98 American Legion, Cumberland. Visitation will be from 1:30-2 PM.

Memorials can be sent to the Bethany Cemetery Association.
