In Memory of Terry W. Olsen
Terry Wayne Olsen, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Water’s Edge Care Center in Hayward, WI. Born on June 30, 1943, in Athens, GA, to Donald and Lorraine Olsen, Terry spent his early years moving frequently across the country as part of a proud Navy family. Despite the many relocations, he eventually established lasting roots in Illinois, where he built a life centered around family, music, and community.
Terry dedicated decades of service as an employee of the United States Postal Service, proudly contributing to the work of a trusted government institution. He approached his role with dependability, commitment, and a strong work ethic until his retirement, after which he made his home in Hayward, WI, where he enjoyed a peaceful and fulfilling life.
Terry had recently taken up learning the guitar and delighted in discovering new ways to express his love of music. Blessed with a rich and steady singing voice, he especially enjoyed sharing it with others during karaoke nights at local establishments. Music — particularly the songs of Neil Diamond, Elvis Presley, and Willie Nelson — brought him tremendous happiness throughout his life.
Those who knew Terry will remember not only his love of music, but also his wonderfully dry sense of humor. He had a unique ability to deliver a perfectly timed comment, often followed by his unmistakable smirk — a small, knowing expression that revealed just how much he was enjoying the moment. That smirk, paired with his gentle wit, brought warmth and laughter to family and friends alike.
Above all, Terry cherished his family. He was immensely proud of his granddaughter, Corinne, and spoke of her with great joy and admiration. His warmth, humor, and gentle spirit will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Terry is survived by his children, Michael Olsen of Hayward, WI, and Tammy (Jeff) Schneider of Cary, IL; his beloved granddaughter, Corinne Schneider of Cary, IL; his sister, Donna Schak of Grayslake, IL; and his loyal dog and companion, Monty. Terry believed deeply in rescuing animals, and Monty — adopted from the Northwoods Humane Society — brought him great comfort, joy, and companionship.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy (Perkins) Olsen; his brother, Dennis Olsen; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Schak.
A private interment will take place, and a celebration of Terry’s life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org, or to the Northwoods Humane Society at https://northwoodshumanesociety.org/.
