In Memory of Thomas Chido


March 1, 1947 - February 23, 2022

Thomas Alan Chido 74 years, 11 months and 23 days, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Tom was born in Spooner, WI on March 1, 1947 to Lawrence and Roberta “Tiny” (Gilbert) Chido.

He was raised in Spooner and graduated from Spooner High School in 1965. Tom attended Barron County Teachers College and UW River Falls. He was married to Mary Jill Novotny on June 7, 1968. They moved to Hudson and he taught at St. Patricks Catholic School from 1968-1973. In 1973 returned to Spooner to work in the family business, C&J Body Shop and took over ownership in 1978. Tom continued to operate the business with his sons, Tommy and Zeppi until his retirement in 2016. Tom was a member of the Lions Club and St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman, both in the summer and winter and going to Lake Superior. Tom loved to agate hunt in addition to mountain biking and participating in the Fire House 50. Tom will be remembered for being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle soul.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jill Novotny Chido of 53 years; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Vicki (Hedlund) Chido and Zeppi Chido; 4 grandchildren, Adrianna Jill, Michael Charles, Lauren Gianna and Allyana Kate; a sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Hub Haskins; 5 sisters-in-law, Karen Novotny, Sharon Novotny, Cheryll Holldorf, Rosanne & Mick Michaelsen and Trudy & Butch Lehman; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Tiny Chido; his special aunt, Carmel Chido; 2 brothers-in-law, Ron and Barry Novotny.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Monday, July 18, 2022 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. A celebration of his life will be held at Round Man’s in Spooner, WI on Monday, July 18, 2022 from 1230PM- ?.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Washburn County Humane Society or Faith In Action.
