In Memory of Thomas Friel
Thomas James Friel Age 62, of Shell Lake, WI died Monday, January 14, 2019 at his home with his loving wife. He was truly loved by his family and they will miss him dearly.
He was born on December 26, 1956 in Mundelein, Illinois to James and Dolores (Moore) Friel. Tom graduated from the Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois in 1975 where he was on the swimming team and was the captain of the water polo team. He was married to Cheryl Podborny on July 9, 1977 in McHenry, Illinois. Tom was a warehouse associate, a CDL truck driver and a wood worker. He enjoyed living in the country by being outside, riding his 4wheeler, hunting with his dogs, watching the wildlife, fishing, gardening and watching all Chicago sports. Tom also enjoyed coaching soccer for his sons for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl “Sherry” Friel of Shell Lake; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, James and Allison Friel of Waukesha, WI & Sean and Melissa Friel of Conover, WI; 2 grandchildren, Abigail and Clare; a sister, Victoria (Don) Miller of Athens, GA; a brother-in-law, Joseph Dvorak of Brooksville, FL; a sister-in-law, Robin (Kurt) Schroeder of Pueblo West, CO; 2 nephews and 4 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dolores Friel; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Bernice Podborny; a sister, Susan Dvorak; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Bandman.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI are in charge of the arrangements.
