In Memory of Timothy J. Hopwood
Timothy “Tim” Hopwood, age 59, a resident of Shell Lake, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on January 18, 2026, after a 2-year battle with cancer.
Tim was born on February 1, 1966, in Durand, Wisconsin, to parents Morse (Hoppy) and Wanda (Hewitt) Hopwood. In 1974, the family moved from Plum City, Wisconsin, to Spooner, where Tim graduated from Spooner High School in 1984. After high school, he worked at Tony’s Riverside for 2 years, and then at White Armature in Earl for the next 6 years.
Tim then took a job with Compassion Connection in Shell Lake as an In-House Director. For the past 11 years he has been a Septic Sales Specialist for Wieser Concrete based out of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, and has worked for Wieser cumulatively for the past 27 years.
Tim had a wide variety of personal interests. He ran two half marathons in Eagle River, Wisconsin, in 2010 and 2011, placing in the top 10 of approximately 500 runners. He also enjoyed deer hunting, playing men’s church league softball, of which he was a coach, and played on a non-league version of an organized men’s basketball team.
Tim did all these things while also always having a building project in progress at his home. His equipment and tools were always kept in good condition, however he always claimed that when his brother Todd would return his tools or equipment to him, it was in the same or better condition than when they left. As we all know, Tim made Jesus the single most important thing in his life, with his true gift being one of servitude to his wife and those around him.
Tim is survived by his beautiful wife Esther of almost 8 years, son Dustin (Marisa) Hopwood of Bloomer, WI, daughter Karissa Joy Hopwood of Rice Lake, WI, step children: Nick (Shanae) Mueller of Eau Claire, WI, Sherri Mueller of Minneapolis, MN, grandchildren: Elliott, Rhea, and Iyla, step grandchildren: Nathan, Leo, Elizabeth, Lucellia, and Avery, his four legged children: Addie, Jeta, and Daisy, his mother Wanda Hopwood of Spooner, WI, sister Jackie Clifford of Hayward, WI, brother Todd Hopwood of Trego, WI, sister Jodi (Brad) Miller of Rochester, MN, devoted and adopted brother Jamie Meronk of Shell Lake, WI, mother in law Annette Hinkle of Sebastian, FL, brother in law Mark (Shelly) Hinkle of Sebastian, FL, sister in law Rebecca (Bill) Boike of Sebastian, FL, brothers in law John and Matthew Hinkle, both of Traverse, MI, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Tim is preceded in death by his father Morse (Hoppy) Hopwood, and father in law Jimmy Hinkle.
A celebration of Tim’s life for his family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Full Gospel Church in Shell Lake at noon. A time of sharing, reflection, and visitation will be at the Church on Saturday from 10:30 until 11:45.
