In Memory of Veda J. Berquam
Veda Jeannette Berquam, 99, formerly of St. Croix Falls, WI, died on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Pioneer Place Health Care Center in Lone Tree, Iowa.
Veda Janette was born on April 19, 1926 in St. Croix Falls, WI, the daughter of Clinton and Mary (McKenzie) Lindberg.
Growing up on the farm near Ubet and Dresser there were lots of aunts, uncles and cousins for her, along with her sisters Lucille and Annis Marie, to visit and play with.
She attended the small grammar school near Sand Lake until she went to the High School in the big town of St. Croix Falls. She attended the Teachers School in River Falls before becoming a teacher in the little school near Nye, WI.
She met Gothard Berquam at a school dance in St. Croix Falls. They were married on March 15, 1947 in Osceola, IA. This union was blessed with four children: Jeanne, James, Mary and Joel.
Jeannette enjoyed traveling, knitting presents for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, tending to her garden and flowers, spending time with family and walking her little dogs (Muffin and Biscuit). At the age of 96 she decided that she wanted to be close to great-grandchildren, so she sold her house and made the move to North Liberty, Iowa.
Living in Assisted Living and then Memory Care and finally Skilled nursing in the area suited her well as she aged comfortably near family in Iowa. The local Hospice and Skilled nursing people made her passing very easy for the family. They are a real treasure for families making this life transition. A special thank you to the staff at Pioneer Place Health Care Center and Moments Hospice for the amazing care they gave to Jeannette.
Veda is survived by her children, Jeanne Oplinger of Lakeville, MN, James (Barbara) Berquam of Tiffin, IA, Mary Stanley of Maui, HI and Joel (Anne) Berquam of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Andrew Oplinger, Mary Beth Evans, Michael Berquam, Timothy Berquam and Dominic Stanley, and several great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Granros of Stanley, WI; nephews and nieces, Diane and Gene Fromm, Rory and Anna Marie Granros, Mike and Cheryl Peper, Cindy and Dale Massey, Mary and Bill Mitchell and numerous extended family and friends.
Veda was preceded in death by her parents Clinton and Mary, her husband Gothard in 2005 and her sister Annis Marie Peper.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to your local Alzheimer chapter or Hospice Service or the Berquam Family in care of James Berquam.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church in St Croix Falls, Wisconsin with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
