In Memory of Wayne M. Kegel


April 5, 1931 - September 26, 2022

Wayne Milton Kegel, aka Joe, Uncle Sonny, Herr Kegel, and Old Grandpa, 91, of Spooner died, September 26, 2022, at Spooner Health.

He was born April 5, 1931, in Ashland, WI to Joseph and Elizabeth (Beiersdorf) Kegel.

He was married on September 1, 1957, to Donna Ruth Weis who preceded him in death on July 9, 2021.

Wayne graduated Ashland High School in 1949 and from Northland College in 1958. He began his teaching career in Milwaukee, making a stop in Phillips, and retiring in 1988 while teaching at Spooner High School. He enjoyed retirement for 34 years. Wayne’s family meant everything to him, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren they were his favorite past time, along with coffee time with his friends, writing letters, church and touching base with everyone by phone. We are all going to miss the phone calls and letters!

He is survived by his children: Paul (Karen) Kegel of Plymouth, MN, Ann (George) Basgall of Haugen, and Amy (Mark Giuliani) of Trego; grandchildren: Nichole (Andy) Zuidema, Franklin Means, Kayla (Troy) Young, Stephanie Costello, Kelsie Zacharias, and Angelo Giuliani; great grandchildren: Markell, Kymbella, Aviana, Adler, Daulton, Easton, Brexton, Oscar, Maverick, Henry, Delilah, Peter, Gray, and Wyatt; sister: Carol Newsom; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna R. Kegel; brother, Joseph "Donny" Kegel; and sister, Betty Good

Memorials can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church of Spooner or N7483 Wood Dr. Trego, WI 54888.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner with Pastor Heather Kristner officiating. Burial will be in Green Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM.

Skinner Funeral Home of Shell Lake is serving the family.
