
In Memory of Wilbur L. Severance
Wilbur L. Severance, age 92, of Spooner, WI passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Dove Health Care Center in Spooner.
Wilbur Leigh Severance was born October 27, 1932, in Milo, Maine, the son of Lyman and Dorothy (Foss) Severance. Will was raised in Milo and graduated from high school there. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for four years during the Korean War and was stationed on the USS Randall. After his honorable discharge, Will returned to Milo, ME for a short time before moving to Alaska. Will worked as a civilian employee at Fort Greely maintaining the heating, ventilation and air conditioning. He then moved to Nevada where he worked at an Army Base for several years. Will then moved to Minnesota where he would continue working in the HVAC industry. While working in Columbia Heights, MN, Will met Catherine R. Kloeckl. Will and Cathy were married on November 29, 1969, in Superior, WI. They lived in Hilltop and Coon Rapids before settling in Mounds View, MN. They would raise their two sons in Mounds View and spend 38 years in that community. In 2004, Will retired and he and Cathy moved to Spooner, WI where they spent their summers and would winter in Phoenix, AZ. In Will's younger years he was an avid bowler who bowled in three leagues at one time. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and puttering in his workshop. He was a very humble and gentle soul who was always interested in what others had to say.
Will is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cathy; two sons, Andy (Amy) Severance of Ramsey, MN, Matt (Heather) Severance of Andover, MN; five grandchildren, Ashley, Megan, Taylor, Morgan and Vincent; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Minard; and two sisters, Viola Mithee and Priscilla Severance.
A memorial service celebrating Will’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner with Pastor Heather Kistner officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township. Military honors will be accorded by the State of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner, WI.
